Review: 8.5 out of 10 stars.
To start the Summer with a Summer blockbuster, The Mummy decides to go all out with lots and lots of good action, adventure, horror, zombies, Walking Dead type of thriller drama and a little humor comedy. Excellent sound track symphony that totally drummed up and made the storybook telling more grand, engaging, fast and loud fights. It even has a hint of Indiana Jones.
It also has quite a lot of special effects of horror. The loud band definitely made one jump more than a few times.
While it does have a good starting point which is narrated by the sultry Russell Crowe, the plot did muddle a little in the middle with some identity crisis. Fortunately, the good action got the cast back on the saddle.
Cinematography is impressive, blended well with CGI. Definitely a good movie for IMAX 3D.
Tom Cruise has done a lot of the solid stunts. His cocky character had the audience remember his good old Top Gun days. Heck, he even looked quite young with that twinkle in his eyes. Guess Maverick is back from 30 years ago!
Note this is an almost remake of 1932 with the reversal of the mummy being female and the “lover” being male in this one. So it’s more of a movie of its own.
