Rush (Movie)

RushMain Cast: Chris Hemsworth, Daniel Bruhl, Olivia Wilde, Alexandra Maria Lara

Review: 7.8 out of 10 stars.

There’s only one thing between you and the finish line, it’s the determination, and how you approach it.

Engaging race car drivers with great and very loud tracks on the field, you would wonder if earplugs should be provided to watch it. And the racing scenes were great with quite a few where you were either in (more…)

Prisoners (Movie)

PrisonersMain Cast: Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Terrence Howard, Viola Davis, Maria Bello, Paul Dano, Melissa Leo

Review: 6.8 out of 10 stars.

There are usually 2 major reasons why a movie is long and this one is 2 hours and 26 mins! One is that if you pay for a movie, even if it’s not good, with much less editing out of the film, at least you would feel your money’s worth (but not the time.) Second reason is simply the movie is not that great and by having more subplots or unnecessary story lines, it works to confuse the audience and builds as “complex”, as many critics claimed this movie to be.

Sadly, nowadays many movies are at least almost 2 hours long.

The storyline is simple, 2 kids were kidnapped at plain sight and while there’s an obvious suspect, the cops were unable to find the kids nor had any evidence that the suspect has done it. Hugh Jackman’s character, the father of one of the kids, decided to take it in his own hands and attempted to do his own detective work.

The movie has too much

Captain Phillips (Movie)

CaptainPhillipsMain Cast: Tom Hanks

Review: 8.5 out of 10 stars.

Captain Phillips was definitely an engaging movie based on actual events. The actions were very believable.

Tom Hanks was well cast, from an initial underestimation of the pirates by lying, to quickly and cautiously observe the situation and was able to adjust immediately to keep everyone, including himself, safe. The fear on (more…)

Don Jon (Movie)

DonJonMain Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, Tony Danza

Review: 7 out of 10 stars.

What a highly anticipated, high expectations, great trailer movie, and it started all great and hot and heavy, only then to drag on without direction and all of a sudden, threw a bucket of ice on the head!

The trailer has the best scenes and lines, unfortunately. And even it was only 1:30, it felt longer with the lack of complexity of a storyline / plot.

The movie’s original name was Don Jon’s addiction, about how he always (more…)

The Family (Movie)

TheFamilyMain Cast: Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Tommy Lee Jones, Dianna Agron

Review: 7.5 out of 10 stars.

Very entertaining at best with great soundtrack, good directing, very funny but not just silly lines, and most of all, the interaction among the family and as individuals was incredible.

Yes, it’s a stereotypical Italian mafia comedy written and directed by Luc Besson who’s known for the violence and action packed movies. It’s got explosions, funny and good chemistry dialogues, a straightforward storyline. The movie is not showcasing a complex plot but a fun ride. With the seasoned Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer and a bit lagging Tommy Lee Jones (in this movie), the pretty Dianna Agron (creative hairstyles throughout the movie) who looks like a skinny version of Britney Spears, and the okay John D’Leo, it’s a great cast. All the other characters were very believable.

Riddick (Movie)

RiddickMain Cast: Vin Diesel, Jordi Mollà, Matt Nable, Katee Sackhoff

Review: 6.3 out of 10 stars.

Third installment of Riddick since Pitch Black, Riddick was trying to survive after being abandoned and the desire to return his home society. Gradually he realized he was being hunted by human beings and beasts, all for different reasons.

Very good CGI makes beasts look real. The bleeding (more…)

The World’s End (Movie)

TheWorldsEndMain Cast: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Paddy Considine, Eddie Marsan, Martin Freeman

Review: 6.5 out of 10 stars.

This movie kind of reminds of This is the End, 5 guys experiencing apocalypse. The difference is they have a goal. 20 years ago these  5 guys got out of college and were out to hit 12 pubs before embarking a career that would ultimately be considered as successful in a typical world, yet it would also signify boredom.

The leader of the pack, Gary, after 20 years, is (more…)

The Grandmaster (Movie)

TheGrandmasterMain Cast: Tony Leung, Ziyi Zhang

Review: 8.75 out of 10 stars.

What a story about Wing Chun master Ip, who never thought he would have to stand up and leads until after he turns 40. Having to leave his family to a safe place but were ultimately gone from him as he had no choice but was also willingly to take on the lead role. His whole life was never meant to combine north and south, but he did. His wish to be in (more…)
